On this past Sunday the Christian Community all over the world celebrated Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday signifies Jesus entrance into Jerusalem and the beginning of Holy Week. What really caught my attention in John’s Gospel rendition of what took place on Palm Sunday is the crowd that gathered and the use of Palms to welcome Jesus. The crowd was made up of people who had only primarily heard about Jesus. They were told of the miracle he performed in raising Lazarus from the grave and as a result of hearing that they came out to meet him waving Palms in the air. Palms in that community signified “VICTORY”. Therefore, we have people who have mainly been left out all their lives by the dominant culture waving Palms and shouting Hosanna which means “Please Save”. What shouted me on Sunday is the fact that they were waving Palms off of what they had HEARD not what they had SEEN. huuummmm. Can you declare VICTORY(Palms) this week in your life off of what you have heard although you have not seen it yet. Let me help you. Faith is the substance of things hope for the evidence of things not seen. Is God credit good enough with you that you can wave Palms(Victory) on a Tuesday although you ain’t got the money to pay your bills on tomorrow. You may ask why should I wave Palms on Tuesday and Rev. I am broke? Haven’t you HEARD, God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory. Just like Sunday I dare you to “Shout on That”. This week make it a Palm Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday so that the enemy will know when they see you waving your Palms that you have the victory not just on Sunday but allll week long. Because alllll day and alllll night you got Angels watching over you. Shout on that!!!! Be Encouraged!

Monday Inspirational(3-22-10)

Today I had the wonderful honor of preaching the Eulogy for Mr. Henry O. Lamar Sr. Mr. Lamar was 89 years old and a patriarch of Saint Paul Church. For many years he served as the Pro-Tem of the Steward Board and many other organizations. In preparation for this Eulogy, God spoke to me in an unusual way. I researched everything that happen in History from the date of Mr. Lamar birth till his death. In the 1920’s he saw the collapse of Americas financial foundation(Great Depression). In 1930-1940 he saw WWII. In 1950’s he saw the argument of Brown vs. the Board of Education. In the 1960’s he saw the Civil Rights Movement. In the 1970’s he saw Morehouse open the first black college of medicine in the 20th Century. In the 1980’s he witness the Challenger Shuttle blow up in Mid-Air. In the 1990’s he saw America at war again in the Persian Gulf War. In the 2000’s he saw America continue in war with the War in Iraq and Afghanistan, and finally saw in this decade a President elected that look like Him. Even after seeing all of that and the world transition around him Mr. Lamar never lost his Faith and therefore he was able to remain productive although things around him were constantly changing.

Often times we look to books, and celebrities to inspire us in times like these. We often forget that God has placed among us persons like Mr. Lamar who are living legends in our own backyards and yet we miss the blessings that God has put in them to help us to survive these difficult times. I challenge and encourage you this week to seek out those relatives, neighbors or friends that God has blessed to sojourn in this world for a long period of time and let them speak life into you. After all if they have survived all that Mr. Lamar has survived then certainly they can help all of us to keep our mind in a “Shaky” society. Be Encouraged!!!!

Tuesday Inspirational(3-16-10)

March 16th, 2010 by Ronald Slaughter No comments »

Dr. Charles Adams of Detroit, Michigan tells the story of a woman who was featured on CNN for her faith in God. This woman had saved up all her money to purchase a home in California. She promised God that if he blessed her to buy a home she would praise him forever. God granted her request and blessed her with a home. However, there were some neighbors who did not want her in there community so they drafted a covenant that declared “if anyone  does not pay their association dues then there property can be foreclosed on.” The woman forgot to pay her dues and the association foreclosed on her property. They threw her furniture and clothes out onto the lawn and sold the property to two white lawyers for $10,000.00, although the property was worth over $100,000.00. The woman got up that Sunday morning and went to church as usual and began to praise God like never before. I mean she shouted, ran, and shouted all over the church. Her praise was so real that 9 lawyers in the church through discernment felt something unusual was going on with the lady and ask was there anything they could do. God strategically place these lawyers in this woman’s life and they took up her cause free of charge and went back to court and got her property back.

The moral of this story is, can you praise God even when God has seemingly left you alone and is not doing what you are praying for him to do. The marks of a mature christian is when they can praise God even in “Shaky Times”. I challenge you this week to find a reason to give God glory and praise regardless of how “shaky” your life may be. I really do believe when Praises Go Up, Blessings will come Down. Have a Good Week. Be Encouraged!!!!

None of us drive vehicles that we do not periodically have to take them in to get service completed. In some vehicles all sorts of lights will pop on as a reminder that it is time to get the vehicle serviced. For example, check engine, maintenance due, oil is low etc. Once we see those lights we usually(most of us) schedule an appointment immediately to get the service we need done. On this past Sunday it came to me while Dr. Jo Ann Browning was preaching Psalm 139 the we just like vehicles need God to provide spiritual maintenace on us every now and then. For some of us our spiritual lights have been on for sometime warning us to get our spiritual life serviced very soon. When was the last time you ask God to perform a diagnostic test on you??? If you want to continue to run on to see what the end will be like then I suggest that you pull in immediately to God’s garage(secret closet) and ask God to SEARCH you and if there is anything not right in you or not like him that he removes it right away. Psalm 139 is a direct replica of the Psalmist pulling into God’s garage and allowing God to perform a diagnostic test on him. I submit once God checks you out and gets your spark plugs(inner self/soul), engine(heart), and oil(mind) changed out you will be headed in a direction never before imagined. The best is still yet to Come!!! Be Encouraged!!!
